DIY – Baked Sweet Potato Chips πŸ

Hey !

New recipe DIY here, as I found a healthier version of potato chips 😊
This is a baked version, not fried. I know in England they’re called crisps, but since in France we call those chips, I’ll go with the American version !

Sweet Potatoes are healthier than regular potatoes : they have fewer calories (90 vs 130), contain more fiber, less carbs, and are packed with vitamins (A, C…) and minerals. They’re also good for blood pressure and metabolism.

But don’t be fooled, these are healthy, yet really tasty !

β€’ The Ingredients :

  • 3-6 Sweet Potatoes (I used 3, but it wasn’t much)
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic (grated, or dried)
  • Paprika
  • Salt & Pepper

1. Wash And Slice The Potatoes

Wash your sweet potatoes, and cut them into thin slices, as thinly as you can (a mandoline is great for this). You can leave the skin, or peel it out if you wish.

2. Season The Slices

In a bowl, put the slices and soak them with Olive Oil, enough to cover every slice. Then, sprinkle with all the spices (Paprika, Garlic, Salt & Pepper), and make sure that there is some on every chip by mixing them with your hands.

3. Put Into the Oven

Preheat the oven at 190Β°C (or 374Β°F). Place the chips on a grill or a baking sheet, and bake until they look done and dry πŸ”₯
(15-20 min, it can take up to 30 min and more if your slices aren’t that thin).

4. Let cool and Enjoy !

Let them cool for some minutes, as the chips are crispier when they cool down.

I’m very happy with this recipe, because finally I can eat as many chips as I want without feeling like I just drank a glass of oil.

  1. Tried this last night and 2 small sweet potatoes made 4 baking trays worth. Some inside in the oven and others out on the BBQ. All cooked at different speeds as some finished soft, some burnt and most were in between. We had it with steak and salad. The family liked them but I was disappointed with the flavor – they all tasted like sweet potato despite the seasoning. Not sure if I’d try them again due to the time it took to lay them out and keep an eye on them.
