Knowing which clothes to pack can be hard, especially when you’re travelling for a whole month.
Sometimes there was a piece of clothing that I wore only one time, because it only matched with one other piece of clothing ! I should no have taken that piece with me.
But now, what I do is that I create a capsule wardrobe for the said trip, and it has changed my way of travelling !
✘ What is a capsule wardrobe ?
A capsule wardrobe is a minimalistic group of clothes that go well together, no matter how you mix them, and that perfectly fit your style and morphology. Most of the times, it’s composed of 30 to 50 pieces (including tops, dresses, bottoms, jackets… everything !).
You guessed it : it’s all about quality over quantity, and that’s what we need when travelling to not overflow the luggage !
✘ How do I create a capsule wardrobe ?
The best way to to this is first, to determine how many pieces you’re going to bring with you. Personally, I went for 15 tops, 5 bottoms, 5 Cardigans/sweaters, 5 dresses, and 3 pair of shoes.
Next, pick a palette of colors composed of neutrals and color accents, 3 of each is good to have a balanced wardrobe. I chose Black/grey, white, and beiges for neutrals, and pinks, light blue, and jean for accents.
✘ How to repart the said colors ?
What I do is that I concentrate the accent colors on the tops or dresses, and the neutrals on the bottoms and shoes. That way, no matter how I mix every element, I know that the colors are going to match !
A capsule wardrobe is awesome because you know you like every piece of it, but also because it’s so relaxing to just take any piece and know that it’s going to go well together, you don’t really have to think it through when you don’t know what to wear.
Here’s a summary picture that I drew,
so you can visualise better the concept of travel capsule wardrobe :

I hope this posts helps some fashion lover travelers out there 🙂
