Hey !
Many of you know that right now, I’m in Colombia !
And to show you a bit of my trip, I decided to make this Colombia Travel Diary series, beginning with this one ?
Destination – Cali :
So, we took the plane from Paris to Madrid first, around 10 am.
There, we had lunch and took another plane to Cali, without stopping by Bogota (the capital), we spent a total of 12h on planes, pretty exhausting.
Cali is one of the biggest cities of Colombia, and it’s even I’m the list of the 10 most dangerous countries of the world. I honestly never had any problem, we always go to Cali to visit my uncle and cousins that live there ! Anyways, we had to adjust to the local time, it was 10 pm when we went to sleep, which in Europe means 5 am. Since that was the time when we woke up in France, we didn’t sleep for 24h straight. I’m not going to lie, it’s exhausting and awful, but I kind of love it in a way, it’s like an adventure ! I’m used to it since we’ve been travelling that way since I was 3 months old.
Our First Day in Colombia :
The next day we went to a small local market to get some vegetables for lunch.
Then we went to a swimming pool complex, we had a homemade lunch there that we cooked on a grill there was on the complex.
Here is the outfit I was wearing that day ❤
There were also lots of other things around like tennis, gym machines, kiosques… And of course lots of nature and flowers !
The showers for after the pool were built in stones, it’s like a small waterfall !
On Our Way to Popayan :
Later we had to continue our journey to Popayan, which is where my grandparents live.
Popayan is a student city, all the architecture is white and in colonial style, like 15th century in Spain. We arrived late too, so straight to bed again. The next day we woke up at 5-6 am too, couldn’t sleep more ! We didn’t visit much that day, we caught up with some more uncles and cousins, then we went to have some empanadas before lunch (Not the same version as my Empanadas Recipe Post ! These were “empanadas de pipian”).
Finally we ran some errands, since we forgot some stuff in France. I got a hydration face cream, a local simcard as I told you in my 11 Travel Essentials Post, a portable Wi-Fi device (we didn’t know my grand parents didn’t have Wi-Fi at home anymore), and some other hygiene products.
We also got some guanabana and more fruit ! Guanabana is kind of stinky but it’s delicious.
Look at this gigantic watermelon we saw at the store ? :
We ended the shopping session with a snack : almojabanas (a kind of bread pastry) and Milo (the local instant chocolate powder).
And that’s all we’ve done so far, tomorrow we’re off to Cali again because my mother needs to run some tests for her health.
How do you like the format of this Colombia Travel Diary ?

I like the photos you posted about this trip! It reflects your journey and the place. I have been in Colombia for 6 months, visited Cali but did not have a chance to travel to Popayan. The empanadas and the drinks are the food I miss the most in Colombia, and I always look at some weird shape fruits there. Have you tried avocados there too? They look so big.
Awesome ! Food is such a big part of Colombia, I miss it too. Of course ! Avocados have their rightful size there haha ? I always help my grandfather pick some at his farm, it’s a great experience ! ✨
